Squamous cell carcinoma, the cancer is in the upper and middle esophagus, and adenocarcinoma, which is located in the esophagus, near the stomach.
Barrett's esophagitis often occurs after someone has been developed. Then, the cells change the abnormal esophagus. The cells are modified to resist the invasion of the acids in the region and to begin to resemble the cells in the intestines. This condition can be diagnosed with upper GI endoscopy, biopsy, and symptoms. Treatment is limited and may involve the removal of the esophagus, which is usually reserved only for patients with cancer. Barrett, sometimes a precursor to esophageal cancer. Each year, about 0.5% of people with Barrett's esophagus develop esophageal cancer.
